Investigation of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawas 'suspicious' deaths faces challenges

Days after Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa had died at home in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, the authorities continued to meet a possible timeline to explain the couple's mysterious deaths.

The 95 -year -old Hackman and the 65 -year -old Arakawa were found dead in their house together with a dog on February 26. The Santa Fe County's Sheriff department kept the deaths “suspicious” and started an investigation.

While Hackman and Arakawa's cause of death were not published, the authorities believe that both were dead for over a week before their bodies were discovered.

The investigators have difficulty putting together the timeline, which leads to gene Hackman's death

The timeline of the events that lead to the discovery of Hackman and Arakawa remains blurred because little is known about the couple's “withdrawn” lifestyle before their mysterious deaths.

“One of the things is in an investigation to put together the timeline, usually before the event, and that gives us a lot of information,” said Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza during a press conference on Friday. “But in this case it seems as if we have an inverted timeline.

“We make a timeline from the time of death and the autopsy and the results. We will work backwards,” he added. “We will do both and then hopefully we will decide what could have happened to both people.”

Sheriff Mendoza found on Friday in the “Today” show that putting together a timeline would be a “challenge”.

“We try to put together things, a timeline when the deceased were last spoken. Of course we understand that this is a challenge because they were very private people and a private family. So we try to put together all information.”

The authorities confiscated two mobile phones and a planner of 2025 during a search by the Santa Fe residence, according to the list of inventory list received by FOX News Digital.

Mendoza confirmed that the authorities examined the “cell phone data, telephone calls, text messages, events, photos” to “put the timeline together”.

Arakawa was lying on the floor in the couple's bathroom. According to the affidavit of the search command, room heating was on the ground. Officers described the pianist as a “obvious sign of death”, including flatulence and mummification.

Hackman and Arakawa tested negatively for carbon monoxide, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed at the press conference on Friday.

The couple's Santa Fe residence was tested on carbon monoxide on February 26th. The Santa Fe City fire department released the house after finding no evidence of a carbon monoxide leak or poisoning.

The New Mexico Gas Company also reacted to the scene and found “no signs or evidence” for problems with whistling in or around Hackmans at home.

Gene Hackman's pacemaker stopped on the recording activities on February 17th

Sheriff Mendoza confirmed that the last recorded activity took place on Hackman's pacemaker on February 17th. The authorities assume that this Hackman's last day was alive while the body of the film star was discovered for nine days.

“According to the pathologist, I think that this is a very good assumption that this was his last day of life,” said Mendoza during a press conference on Friday.

Hackman's pacemaker could offer an important indication of Hackman's death, said the forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden during a performance in “Fox Report”.

“This event would have been a cardiac arrest caused by an abnormal pulse frequency,” said Baden. “The pulp tracks the pulse, and if it becomes too low, it unloads it. And that's all in the plate.”

“So the autopsy showed that he had no injury,” continued the forensic pathologist. “There was no carbon monoxide. And – the most common cause of death in this country – he had severe heart disease, diseases of coronary arteries and high blood pressure, perhaps from what was released. So that would cause it because it has a cardiac arrest in the mud room to collapse exactly there.”

Pills were found in the bathroom near Betsy Arakawa's body

According to the affidavit, a prescription bottle was opened near Arakawa's body near Arakawa's body. Pills were “scattered” on the opponent and the authorities took “thyroid medication, blood pressure medication and tylenol” from home.

In a possible scenario, Dr. Baden, Arakawa could have rushed to the toilet to grab Hackman's medicine after finding it and falling into her rushed condition.

“Perhaps she hit her head on the way down and had an internal violation of the brain that did not appear on the outside or bleed inside the brain,” the forensic pathologist noticed.

“Or that she had severe heart disease at the age of 65 and excitement can cause a trigger for the heart rhythm that causes death under these circumstances,” he added. “I think the first one that beats her head would be more common.”

The authorities did not find external trauma on Arakawa's body.

Maintenance workers who discovered Hackman and his wife hadn't heard from the couple for 2 weeks

Hackman and Arakawa were found by the maintenance workers Jesse Kesler and Roland Lowe Begay. Kesler, who worked for the couple for 16 years, presented the hectic 911 call on February 26.

Both Kesler and Begay told the authorities that they last had contact with Hackman and Arakawa two weeks earlier.

“Both people rarely see the owners (the apartment) to see at home when carrying out routine maintenance,” was the affidavit by the search. “Both stated that they kept contact with the home owners through text message and telephone calls and mainly communicated with the female homeowner …”

Kesler has been a personnel entrepreneur for Hackman and Arakawa for over 16 years and told Fox News Digital that he was “with a broken heart”.

Kesler made an official explanation on Saturday and announced that he would comment on the “tragic event” that led to the death of Hackman and Arakawa due to their privacy. However, he shared some friendly words about the couple.
