Iraq asks the FIFA -Move Palestine World Cup qualification from Jordan

Iraq wants the qualifying game of the World Cup against Palestine to be moved by the Jordanian capital Amman next month after he had also repositioned a Palestinian proposal to stage the game outside of Jerusalem.

The last soccer player who played in the Palestinian areas took place in October 2019, and Palestine has staged her “Heim” keeeFlee at neutral venues in Qatar, Jordán, Kuwait and Malaysia since then.

Palestine will accommodate Iraq on March 25 in a game of Group B in the third round of Asian qualifications, and after the proposal to have been rejected in the Palestinian areas, FIFA Amman proposed as a neutral event location.

In a statement on Thursday, the Iraqi Football Association (IFA) said that it wrote to Soccers World B are published in which the match was moved to another city, since playing in Amman would violate its own rules for neutral venues.

“This decision raises serious questions about the integrity and fairness of the competition, given the extremely competitive nature in group B,” says the IFA declaration.

“Iraq, Jordan and Palestine are direct competitors in the group, and the gap between Iraq and Jordan in the overall ranking is currently very close.”

Iraq is in second place in the group with 11 points, with Jordan leading three points to third place and South Korea, who are negligent by three points. The two best teams in the group go straight to the World Cup final 2026 in North America.

The Palaßine Football Association (PFA) published an explanation on Thursday that Iraq's decision not regretted the match in the Faisal al-Husseini International Stadium in Al-Ram, Jerusalem.

The PFA said that FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had inspected the stadium and agreed that the match could be played there, but only with the agreement of the Iraqi.

“We were surprised to find out that our colleagues in the Iraqi Football Association had unilaterally decided to reject playing in Palestine, and that this directly announced the AFC and FIFA without consulting the PFA,” the explanation said.

“Despite this decision, we reaffirm our unshakable commitment to regain our right to equip games on our home floor – a right that we have fought tirelessly to secure and maintain over the years.”

The IFA said: “Despite our painting to keep the match in the beloved Palestine and at that time to stand with Palestinian sports,” the body decided to reject the stadium due to the lack of VAR technology.

Reuters contacted FIFA and AFC for a comment.

With three points after six games, Palestine are the floor of group B. Neither Palestine nor Jordan have previously qualified for the World Cup final, while Iraq lost all three games in Mexico in Mexico in 1986.
