James van der Beek's motivational and viral video that already has more than 200,000 likes: “What cancer taught me”

Actor James van der BeekThe best known for his portrayal of Dawson Leery about 'Dawson's Creek' announced last year that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer. He received the diagnosis for the first time in August 2023, but had “dealt privately with the news” in addition to his family.

Since then, Van der Beek has largely kept privately about his struggle against cancer, but a recent social media contribution has given an insight into his fights to catch up with the illness. On Saturday, shortly after his 48th birthday, he shared a video on Instagram entitled “What made me cancer'.

In the video, he described the past year as “the hardest of my life” and revealed that he had tried to find out with the fact that he had to go away from his family during the treatment.

“When I was younger, I defined myself as an actor, which was never so fulfilling, and then I got a husband and it was much better and then I became a father and that was the ultimate,” said van der Beek. “All of these definitions that were so cared for me were withdrawn by me. “”

“I was gone for treatment, so I couldn't be a husband who was helpful to my wife,” he continued. “I couldn't be a father who could pick up his children and put his children in bed and be there for them. I couldn't be a provider because I didn't work. “

“I was faced with the question.”If I'm just a swear, weak type, alone in an apartment with cancer, what am I?'”

Van der Beek's trip, however, took a turn when he made peace with the fact that he was not reduced by his cancer diagnosis. Instead, he was able to pull strength from his religion and ended the video with a motivation message to everyone.

“I am worth God's love, simply because I exist,” he said. “And if I am worthy of God, shouldn't I also appreciate my own?“”

“When I move this healing portal in the direction of recovery,” van der Beek continued, “I wanted to share this with them because this revelation, which came to me, was able not least for all prayers and the love that was aimed at me.”
