Joey Bosa was published by Chargers in front of the NFL -Free agency; Saves $ 25.4 million for the salary limit

Joey Bosa is officially a free agent.

The Los Angeles Chargers announced on Wednesday that they released the Star Pass-Rusher before the start of the Free Agency. ESPNS Field Yates explained that it was a purely “business step” that Adam Schefter saves the AFC West team with 25.4 million US dollars against the upper limit.

Tom Pelissero from NFL Network provided more context:

To say that the pass-rush of the chargers could look very different in 2025 is quite an understatement, since Bosa is not the only headline name that could leave this low season.

Khalil Mack is also planned for the free agency and could sign elsewhere in this phase of his career.

The chargers selected Bosa with the number 3 of the overall selection of the NFL design in 2016 and wasted no time to establish themselves as an impact player. He was the defensive rookie of the year behind 10.5 sacks in his first season, which was just a sign of what should come for Los Angeles.

In nine years in the league, Bosa has five Pro Bowl selection and four seasons with double-digit sack-sack sums. The only thing that at times held him back is injuries because he played only seven games, five games in 2022 and nine games in 2023 in 2018.

Perhaps this durability is a problem for potential applicants on the open market, but the product of the state of Ohio is also only 29 years old and has a per bowl season in 2024.

Bosa helped in 14 games in 14 games last season with five bags and two forced fiddles in the playoffs in the playoffs. He and Mack have a dominant one-two punch in this off-season, in which they both were together on the field, certainly generate a lot of interest from other teams.

In the chargers, this step gives them more financial flexibility in front of the free agency and then before the draft.

With Bosa and potentially Mack (34), they may be younger on the defensive side of the ball to close the gap in the division in the Kansas City Chiefs.
