John Ebeling on Florida Southern Basketball Legende Hal Wissel

Hal Wissel, who trained the men's basketball team in Florida Southern in the 1980s, died on February 10th. He had just turned 86.

Wissel graduated from Springfield College with a degree in physical education (1960) before reaching his MA in physical education at Indiana University in 1964 and acted as head coach for Trenton State (1964-67). He then trained Division I Lafayette College (1967-71) and became the conference champion of Division I Fordham University in 1972. In 1972 he acquired the coach's east coach and the east coach of 1972.

The New York New York native used this experience in 1977 as a southern Mocasin head coach of Florida and finally transformed Florida Southern into a national power. In fact, from 1980 to 1982 Florida he led to the south to three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Final Four, which has not been coordinated at the university since then.
