Lake Lake Bluff Gas Line causes short evacuation a day

A group of residents and students of a private school in the Bluff -Lake was briefly evacuated on Tuesday after a gas leak in the village.

Shortly before noon, the two-block area between the Rockland Avenue and the Mawman Avenue from the West Scranton Avenue to Main Street was evacuated after the leak was reported in a residence on the 600 block by Mawman.

“There was private property that had a sewer repair, and the contractor who did this work hit a gas capacity,” said village administrator Irvin.

Around 110 students and 16 employees of the Forest Bluff School in the first block of the Scranton Avenue were sent to the nearby Lake Bluff library when North Shore Gazcrews worked for repairing the leak.

The families then took the families in the library with the lessons, which was resumed on Wednesday morning, said headmaster Lynn Jessen.

The residents were allowed to return to their houses from 1.45 p.m., the police lake said in a statement.

There were no reports of damage or injuries, added the deputy police chief Erik Gehrke.

A spokesman for North Shore Gas said that the repairs had been completed and the crews were working to restore the service for all affected customers.
