Lamar football coach names Ryan McCarthy as the new offensive coordinator

The Lamar University soccer team has a new coordinator who wants to bring the offensive of the cardinals to the next level.

Head coach Pete Rossomando announced on Monday that Ryan McCarthy Lamar's new offensive coordinator and quarterback trainer will be. McCarthy is a former head coach of the state of Central Connecticut, who has a long -term relationship with Rossomando from previous coaching stops.

The position was opened in Lamar when the former offensive coordinator and quarterback trainer join another program, according to a Lamar spokesman. The cardinals also lost the recruitment coordinator and receiver coach Coby Gipson, which was called head coach of Howard Payne University of Division III this low season.

Rossomando said McCarthy would help build on two ceiling seasons on the recent success in Lamar. McCarthy's attitude came the day before Lamar started on Tuesday.

“I have a long -established relationship with Ryan, which goes back 13 years,” said Rossomando in a press release from the university. “I worked with him at various stops during my career. He is a great coach and recruite, but even more important, he is an even better person.”

McCarthy worked from 2019 to 2022 as head coach of the state of Connecticut in Central Connecticut. He took over this job, as Rossomando, the former coach of the Blue Devils, an assistant at Rutger's University.

Before McCarthy's time in the state of Central Connecticut, he worked with the coaching team at the University of Albany for 10 years. His most recent job in College football took place at Boston College, where he worked as a special assistant of the head coach in 2023.

McCarthy in Lamar will now try to improve Lamar's offenses, which occupies fifth place at the Southland conference and has an average of 24.5 points per game in 2024. The cardinals do not have a clear starter in the quarterback position, and McCarthy will help develop several players who compete for the open job.

The cardinals begin with the first of 15 training camps on Tuesday afternoon. Lamar's annual spring game takes place on April 24th in the provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont.
