Legislation for the criminalization of children's criminals – but must continue

Catch22 welcomes the announcement from the British Ministry of the Interior that Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) becomes a specific crime in the pending crimes and police bill.

People who maintain and exploit children for criminal profits are too long or have not been prevented from being prevented from having a further risk of significant damage through this form of child abuse.

We have long called for a national CCE strategy to enable a coordinated national approach to combat child -wearing so that all partners can work together effectively to identify both victims and perpetrators. This legislation is a crucial step and rightly goes through the problem by focusing on difficult measures against perpetrators.

Last year, our county boundaries, exploitation and missing people supported 3,684 children and young people in home services throughout England.

Due to the evidence and insights of our services, we are calling on the government to continue as this new legislation. We want to see:

  • A legal definition of CCE to improve prevention and better protect the victims by ensuring clarity, consciousness and consistency between relevant agencies, including the police and the courts.
  • A robust implementation of the new crimes and proposed prevention orders by guaranteeing the sensitization and the support of the police and other specialists – an implementation that does not depend on the children's own disclosures, but on an effective context -related protection protection that includes online environments.
  • Investments in specialists and clinical support for children's victims of criminal exploitation to reduce new victimization and combat long -term effects, in particular on mental health.

We thank the British home office and the coalition of the government in order to combat knife crime for the possibilities to share our learning in the development of this legislation. We are now looking forward to continuing to work together at the crime and police calculation so that children are safe from exploitation and damage.
