Salt Lake City – on Wednesday in Utah Capitol – When the legislator campaigned for another afternoon of debating invoices – everyone felt a little blue.

Byu blue, that's.

Holmoe recently announced that he will retire at the end of the 2024-2025 season. Since 2005 he has held the top administration job in the BYU sports.

“He lifted the BYU light athletics to a new height and left an indelible brand and an indelible legacy,” said Rep. Jon Hawkins, R-Pleasant Grove, and read a special quote on the floor of the House of Representatives. “Under his leadership, BYU Athletics has reached historical milestones, including, as we all know, the Big 12 conference join and dominate.”

A special quote was also read in the house in honor of the Byu soccer team, which rose last year for an 11-2 season and a win in the Alamo Bowl.

“Congratulations Byu Team, coach Sitake, director Holmoe that they made football great again here in Utah,” said a smiling spokesman for the house, Mike Schultz, R-Hooper, to laugh at the house. “Blue Blue!”

The team and Holmoe also visited the Senate in Utah, where they were honored in a similar way.

BYU soccer coach Kalani Sitake, university president Shane Reese, quarterback Jake Retzlaff, kicker Will Ferrin and Cosmo, the Cougar, were among those present for the honors in the Capitol.

“I am humble about it, but very excited that our players see this and that we have many fans up here, so that's really cool,” said Sitake to KSL TV. “But what is more important, I think this is a good opportunity for us to honor Tom Holmoe.”

“I am very grateful and I know that the team is too,” said Holmoe about the honor. “It is only a great day to feel the support of people who are sometimes cougars – I mean, some of them are utes, some of them are cougars, some of them are aggies, some are wildcats and other state schools – but they all come together to celebrate something big for the state of Utah, and I really appreciate that.”

The Utah governor Spencer Cox also spoke on Wednesday at an event in the Golddraum des Capitol in honor of Holmoe. Byu brought chocolate milk and Cougar Tails-Die Famous 15-inch Horn Donuts.
