The Francis Marion Papers contain over 600 historical documents that were written on and by General Francis Marion, who are also known as Swamp Fox. The nickname arose due to its difficult -to -tapes Guerilla war tactics against British armed forces.

The trust said that the general's legacy has so far only been shaped by secondhand accounts and folklore. These new documents offer the opportunity to gain first -hand insights into your thoughts.

Rick Wise, director of SCBPT, said: “This project rewrites the story. Many historians and biographers misunderstood Marion in a way. These papers offer a more differentiated and more personal view of his character, his leadership and strategies. “
