LG & E Crews find sinkloch near gas lick in downtown Louisville, while the repairs are continued | Local news

Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) – Customers who are affected by a gas leak in downtown Louisville may soon be restored at the beginning of this week.

A LG & E spokesman informed the WDRB crews that they had found the leak, but they also found a sinkhole near the expiring gas line in the 5th street and that the hole may have been caused by the recent rains and floods.

The crews are still working to repair two halves of the affected tube. The company hopes that the crews can complete the work on half of the tube and restore the Gasservice to about half of the 21 affected customers.

The other half of the tube must be changed to redirect the gas for the remaining customers. LG & E said they hope that the rest of the customer service will be restored by Saturday.

Due to the sinkhole, the 5th Street between Jefferson and Liberty Street can be closed for some time.

Several buildings in downtown Louisville, including the Metro Hall, were evacuated on Tuesday morning after reports on a gas leak. The crews quickly came to test the area and found a high level of gas inside and outside.
