Like a marine veteran, a world record for the fastest time to dive in all 7 continents broke

Immersion in the ocean is Barrington Scott, a marine veteran who finds peace 65 feet below the surface.

“Diving is really therapeutic for me,” said Scott. “When I'm under water, I'm calm and collective.”

Scott, who only learned to swim after entering the Marines, experienced diving on the Bahamas more than a decade ago.

“It's a completely different environment,” he said. “I was just overstimulated. It was incredible.”

This initial dive triggered a passion that recently led to a unique performance: a title of the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to dive on all seven continents. It took 19 days, 19 hours and 40 minutes and beat the previous mark of 30 days.

“I am definitely shocked and excited, proud,” said Scott when he learned about his recording. “I say enough, but I'm definitely proud.”

Scott's trip to a world record

Scott, 33, grew up in the Bronx, New York. He was in care until he was adopted at the age of 12. When he was younger, Scott didn't have many ways to explore water activities.

“When I grew up, I was always the child who tried new things,” he said. “It was this openness to do something and eliminates this fear of trying out new things.”

His underwater adventures brought him to 17 countries, with each dive offering unique experiences.

When Scott was asked about his most exciting dive, he did not hesitate: “Antarctic,” he said, although he admitted that he hadn't seen anything during the dive. “I was so disappointed, but it made up for it again by diving.”

In November, Scott started his 30,000 miles long expedition on all seven continents.

“It was a spontaneous moment for me,” he said.

Even in winter and despite the cold water, diving at 30 feet created a feeling of serenity.

“I didn't have many branches before diving,” considered Scott. “A lot of coping or places where I can only be in peace or in a safe place.”

From his first dive to his youngest, Scott said that the sport “taught patience. It taught me to be careful.”

“Every dive is a trip,” he added. “This life is a journey. Every experience forms me.”
