Local law enforcement authorities that increase the patrol in front of St. Patrick's Day

New Hanover Co., NC (ET) – Local law enforcement authorities are working to increase the patrol when the weekend of St. Patrick's Day approaches.

The Sheriff's Office (NHCSO) from New Hanover County emphasizes the danger associated with the Irish holiday.

NHCO and other law enforcement authorities take the alcohol IT and lose IT campaign to limit drinking and driving.

“We will fill areas with several officials and several agencies to relieve people from drinking and driving,” said NHCO Lt. Jerry Brewer. “We all know that they cause deaths, they cause many bad things. If we can get these people off the street, that's the goal.

With St. Patrick's Day just four days away, the goal is to reduce the number of DWIs.

Brewer says that there will be no sober control points because a bat vehicle is not available, but have additional patrols.

He says that it is important that everyone remembers that a decision to sit down after drinking after drinking can have life -changing consequences for you or others.

“When we got a drunk driver off the street, it was worth it if we could save a life,” said Brewer.

The campaign is now running until Monday, March 17th, St. Patrick's Day.

Brewer suggests finding a trip if you have drunk or the NHCSO can give you a free trip to prison.
