Man arrested after he was supposed to get hotel rooms in Laporte County

Laporte County, Ind. (Wndu)-a 50-year-old man was charged with arson after the police had announced that it would bring his hotel room in Laporte County on Thursday evening.

The MPs were shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the Microtel Inn on 9834 W. 400 N. just outside of Michigan City for “an unknown problem in room 214” on the second floor.

When they arrived, the police said that gray smoke was painted under the door door and the hallway under the room door. The fire alarm was then activated to evacuate hotel guests.

The police said they had given the 50-year-old Calvin Kinney, the man in the room, several commands, but he supposedly refused to open the door. The police then forced the door Ajar and let her see that a mattress had been placed on the way to brewing the door.

The police say Kinney finally went into the door and was taken into custody. He rejected medical treatment and was taken with the Laporte County prison, in which he only makes a bond in cash for $ 20,000.

The investigators later learned that the bedding material had been brought together and set on fire.

The hotel was evacuated and closed after the fire was contained. No injuries were reported in the fire.

The fire is examined by the Laporte County's sheriff office and the fire marshal by Indiana State.

Man who was arrested

Robert Butkus(Laport County Sheriff's Office)

In addition to the arrest of Kinney for arson, the police arrested 61-year-old Robert Butkus because of his alleged refusal to evacuate his room at the time of the fire.

According to investigators, Butkus refused to leave his room on the first floor, even after he had given orders for a few minutes. The police say that the room door was slightly Ajar, but the safety lock in the hotel style was engaged.

At some point the police said that she saw Butkus upright to use the bathroom before going back to bed and continued to refuse commands to leave the room.

The police said they had entered the room through the window by cutting the window screen. They say that Butkus gave several more options for evacuating, but he still rejected it.

Butkus was finally taken into custody and then taken to the hospital for medical approval before being taken to the Laporte County prison.

Butkus is refused due to violation and rejecting and the emergency area. It is recorded in prison without bond.
