Man who is charged with Capitol attack in the US Capitol, announces Run for the Senate in Florida | To Florida

A man who was accused of fighting with a baseball bat and a sign during the turmoil on January 6th in the US Capitol announced a run for the US Senate in Florida.

“We'll take over the Capitol again,” wrote Jake Lang, a prominent defendant on January 6th, on X and announced that he applied for the seat that has cleared the Foreign Minister Marco Rubio so far in 2026.

Lang was never in court for charges in connection with his role in the uprising and in his case looked for continuous delays until he was pardoned together with about 1,600 others who took part in the Capitol attack when Donald Trump started.

During his time in the DC prison, what he calls the “DC Gulag”, Lang tried to organize a militia that was originally called North American patriot and Liberty militia or Napalm. He founded online donations and collected hundreds of thousands of dollars on January 6th. He appeared in prison in the media and since he was pardoned, he spoke about the capital fees and developed as one of the volume members of the so-called J6 community.

On January 6, 2021, Lang expressed no regret for his actions and often described himself as a political prisoner. On this day, photo and video recordings show that he repeatedly fights the police and screamed things like “This is our house”. At some point on the uprising, he wore a gas mask and beat the police with a sign and a racket, the Ministry of Justice claimed in an entrance to the Capitol, in which some of the most violence could be seen. Then he posted on social media and wrote: “Arrested me.”

Now, as a US senator, he wants to return to the Capitol and think that he can defeat the Republican who was appointed to the seat, the former Attorney General of Florida, Ashley Moody. In February he submitted a candidacy for the Federal Elections Commission.

“January 6th was a cry for change and I am this change,” he said in his announcement video. “The tree of freedom is thirsty, America.

Lang did not respond to inquiries about comments. Previously, he told The Guardian that he was “not ashamed” on January 6th and he believes that the day was “The pictures that the American people and the world had to see from an united America – black, white, Asian, spanish, gay, hetero, Christian, Muslim – all against a tyrannical oppression, against a Marxist coup.

On his campaign website, he realizes that he will have a “100% Trump America agenda” and that priorities such as mass shift, sealing of the border, “large tax cuts” and the prevention of the First World War.

Lang comes from New York and previously told a local publication in his hometown that he took a run for the US house in a district there. He also told the river reporter that he only voted Trump from the DC prison for Trump in 2024.

He told Miami New Times that he decided in Florida instead because he has found more acceptance since his release from prison. “They love the January Sixers,” he said. “When I handled these last 50 days here in Florida, made campaign videos and saw business owners and friends here and spoke to strangers in public, I crying dozens of people on my shoulder, come out and congratulate and hug and, as a patriot hero and founding of father, observe the father in style.”

Some Republicans in Florida said that they did not see for a long time as a serious candidate. Jake Hoffman, Executive Director of the young Republicans of Tampa Bay, told The Florida Phoenix: “Both cycle have insane candidates with less than 0% chance of winning to win a race, but they still do it.

Others are running for a political office, but none successful. Jacob Chansley, who was known as the “Qanon Shaman” rioters who dressed in horns and shirt when he entered the Capitol, submitted paperwork as a libertarian in 2023. Ryan Zink spoke about his indictment on January 6th during his unsuccessful run for the congress in Texas and described himself as “political prisoners”.

Enrique Tarrio, the proud boy guide, who was convicted of the rebellious conspiracy in connection with the Capitol attack, is reportedly considering a run for an office in Florida. He told Miami New Times in February that it was a “maybe something” and that he is considering fighting the US seat cleared by Matt Gaetz. “When I run, I want to be in the building that they accused me of storming me,” he told the publication.
