Man who is charged with murder after a fatal shootout in Columbia

Columbia, SC (WIS) – A man was arrested and accused in connection with a shootout that made a man dead.

The Columbia Police Department (CPD) said that 24-year-old Benjamin Patterson Jr. was arrested on Monday evening and was charged with murder and two violations of weapons. The police said his indictment came from an overnight stay in the 400 block of the Floyd Drive in Columbia.

Officials said the shootout had remained dead after suffering from a violation of his upper body. The police have not yet determined the motive for the shootout and the victim's identity has not yet been published.

Patterson was brought to the Alvin S. Glenn Detung Center. CPD said they continue to examine the incident.
