Man who was sentenced to 16 years for massive fire that destroyed the residential building in SW Portland

Portland, Ore. (KPTV) – Garrett Repp will spend more than a decade behind bars to found a fire that destroyed a residential building in Southwest Portland in May 2023.

In October 2024, Repp was found guilty of 55 charges, including arson first degree, first -degree animal abuse, ruthlessly endangered person and criminal disaster. He was not found guilty due to the first degree abuse.

On Friday he was sentenced to 16 years and three months in prison.

The fire started on May 16, 2023 in the May apartments in the neighborhood of Gänse Hollow. The fire burned over six hours, drove around 33 people and took over 80 firefighters.

The building was 113 years old and was torn down in September 2023 due to the damage.

Repp was based on the third floor of the apartments and was arrested a week after the fire.
