Man who was shot for Randolph County

Elkins, W.VA (WDTV) – The man who is responsible for the death of Randolph County was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Monday.

According to Michael Parker, public prosecutor of Randolph County, the 71 -year -old Dallas Bryant received the maximum prison sentence for voluntary homicide for the shooting of Preston Higgins (66).

Bryant was initially charged in June 2024 for a murder, a count of the use or presentation of a firearm during the inspection of a crime and two offenses of false information.

However, a plea contract was concluded in January and the indictment was reduced to voluntary manslaughter.

Higgins was found dead on November 13, 2023 in a driveway in the Ward Road with a gunshot wound on the chest. The police reacted to his house after a family member requested a social control after he hadn't seen it for a few days.

At the time of the initial arrest, Bryant told the police that the couple got into a fight in the parking lot and that there was a fight for a weapon. During the fight, Bryant said he was “black” and that “when he was black and [had] He had got this weapon under control if he had shot the victim, ”said court documents.

The police said Bryant took the gun, left the scene to throw it along a guardrail along Route 33.
