Maserati Mc20 goes 197 miles per hour without a driver and sets a new record

A Maserati MC20 has just set a record in Florida. A team modified the Italian super sports car so that it can drive autonomously and reached 197.7 miles per hour in the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and defeated the previous record of 192.8 miles per hour.

The record run occurred last month in the 1000 Miglia Experience Florida in the KSC start and landing facility of KSC Florida. It is one of the longest landingways in the world that measures 2.8 miles long and offers plenty of space for such high -speed tests.

“This global speed records are much more than just a shop window of future technology. We push AI driver software and robotics hardware to the absolute lead, ”said Paul Mitchell, CEO of Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC), the company that has worked with P ELECNICO di Milano in order to change the university driver in such a way that they are operated autonomously in the Maserati.

The previous record was held by a racing car built by Indy Autonomous Challenge. Another MC20 actually holds the previous record for the fastest autonomous car with 177 miles per hour that IAC reached last November.

This is not the first self -driving Maserati to issue its technology. An autonomous Grancabrio of the 1000 Miglia in Italy joined last year, while an MC20 took part in the event in 2023. Sales for the brand was almost 60 percent compared to 2023 last year. The company only sold 11,300 units last year, as it was in addition to the rest of the Stellantis portfolio.
