WHAT:

Born in Scotland and long -time Charlestown, Ri, in Moira “Scotty” Perna, died after a car fire on the way to a friend's house on September 21, 2020.

Almost five years later, in her memory, Scotty's family decided to raise awareness of vehicle fires and thank the first aiders who tried to save them.

“The man who drove behind my mother that night found me after the accident and told his story,” said Scotty's daughter Lisa Lynch. “He said to me: 'If I only had a fire extinguisher in my car, I might have been able to do something.”

So “Moira's mission” was born.

“She always laughed and called all” girls “,” said Lynch. “They all loved.” Scotty spent her career at the University of Rhode Island and worked there for 35 years.

Since she knew that her close girlfriend Lisa Brunetti recently founded Universe Juice, a non -profit organization that focused on reunification of people whose life was touched by traumatic incidents with the first aiders who were among the first to support proved to help Brunetti to get help to get help.

The two created “Moira's mission”, and Lynch donated over 30 fire extinguishers to the residents of South Kingstown to keep them in their vehicles for free. Brunetti agreed to Lynch's donation and found the people who reacted to Scotty's accident in 2020.

“Apart from the event that we organized for the first aiders of my own car accident, Lisa's event is the first 'official' reunion of Universe Juice,” said Brunetti. “Because she is a friend of mine and we have set up an important campaign for public security in cooperation with the Union and Kingston Fire Districts, that's something special.”

On March 13th, Lynch will reunite with these heroes from different departments for the first time since this traumatic night and will also start the initiative for the free fire extinguishers for the residents of reunification.

Both women have worked on collecting donations from local companies, and the fire extinguishers are made available for collection all week after reunification.

“These first aiders and witnesses tried to save my mother's life, and for me this is an opportunity to thank you,” said Lynch. “Everyone can keep brakes in their car, and hopefully this event will bring the importance of this equipment to the public.”
