Bubba Cunningham and Keith Gill, chair and deputy chairman of the selection committee, spoke with CBS after the bracket was unveiled. Cunningham spoke about the “difficult decisions” that were made with this year's bracket and found that the depth of the conferences goes beyond the conference champion.

The big question that was asked was about the entry of North Carolina. Cunningham is not only the chairman, but also the sports director of North Carolina. How they approached the conflict of interest, said Cunningham: “All guidelines and procedures were pursued.”

According to Gill, Cunningham was not in the room when the North Carolina Committee and the vote discussed.

“As a deputy chairman, I had the talks about North Carolina,” said Gill. “We had many discussions in North Carolina.”

Ultimately, it was the final and emergency votes that North Carolina sent as an end team on the field to the NCAA tournament.
