Men rings in the 15th for day 1 at the NCAA Diii Region II championships


Williamsport, Pa. -After the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Region II championships organized by Lycoming College, the wrestling team of the New Jersey City University (NJCU) is currently in 15th place out of 19 teams. Despite the challenging day, two Gothic knights will continue their top-eight finish if they move on on Sunday, March 2, until the second day of the tournament.

Newcomer Dominic Terracciano (Keanansburg, NJ/Keansburg) led the fee for NJCU in the £ 125, ended the first day with an impressive 2-1 record and scored a total of eight points for the team. After Terracciano dropped his opening game, he showed his resilience by sharing back in the consolation bracket. However, his journey took a setback in the quarter -finals, where it was defeated. Despite this loss, Torre showed his fighting spirit by jumping back to the consolation bracket with a 9-0 decision against Danny Poggi from the state of Oneonta. Torre will try to build on this dynamic if he returns to the mat on the second day, hoping to continue in the tournament.

In the 141-pound clip in the second year Dean Costantino (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) The tournament run ended on the first day with a 2-2 record. Costantino opened his day with a hard loss of 21-17 in the first round of the preliminary rounds. However, he recovered in his second game by securing a pen over Elmira's Selvin Maldonado in 3:51. The remaining NJCU wrestlers had a difficult day with Mikey Cross (Union, NJ/Union City) (157 pounds), Fabian Acuna (Somerville, NJ/Somerville) (165 pounds), Diego Viera (Belleville, NJ/Belleville) (174 pounds), Jayden Reyes (Elizabeth, NJ/Alexander Hamilton) (197 pounds) and Walter Thomas () (285 pounds) All end their tournaments with 0-2 records.
