Meta platforms from Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta Platforms Inc., on Thursday, it will begin on March 18 with testing its crowd sourcing facts. It is initially based on a rating system used by Elon Musks X.

Meta ended his fact program in January. At the time, the CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the facts were “politically biased”, with some of the languages that used conservative long time to criticize its platforms. But media experts and those who study social media were according to the political shift of META.

The decision “not only eliminates a valuable resource for users, but also offers legitimized legitimacy for a popular disinformation narrative: this factual examination is politically biased. Factors offer a valuable service by misleading and incorrectly informing the viral claims that millions of users mislead and incorrectly informed Meta, ”said Dan Evon, leading author for Rumorguard, the digital tool of the news competence project, curateding factual tests and teaches people to recognize viral misinformation.

Meta began in December 2016, after President Donald Trump had been elected to his first term, in response to the criticism that “fake news” spread on his platforms. The Tech giant boasted more than 100 organizations in over 60 languages for years to combat misinformation.

The Associated Press ended the participation in the Meta factory test program more than a year ago.

Community Notes: The new approach

Community notes replace facts, although not immediately. Meta said potential contributors in the USA could register to take part in the program, but the notes they write are not displayed immediately.

“We will start with gradually and random people from the waiting list and take the time to test the writing and the evaluation system before notes are published publicly,” said Meta.

Meta said it would not decide what is evaluated or written, and the notes “are not published, unless participants with a number of points of view are largely agreed.” And in contrast to facts in facts in which the areas defined by the misinformation had reduced their distribution, contributions are not punished with community notes, said Meta.

For the time being, facts remain on the spot outside of the United States, although Meta says that it is finally planning to include community notes worldwide.
