Metas Lama hits 1 billion downloads and doubles growth in three months

Metas Open Source Ai Model Family, Lama, has exceeded 1 billion downloads, announced CEO Mark Zuckerberg in threads. This milestone marks a strong increase of 650 million downloads in December 2024 – an increase of 153% in just three months.

Since then, Lama has introduced researchers and has expanded its reach to developers and AI enthusiasts worldwide.

Ahmad Al-Dahle, VP, Head of Genai at Meta, put on LinkedIn about the performance, which said that Lama passed from a research project to the most frequently used open source AI model in two years.

“I am so proud of my team that I worked tirelessly every day to make Lama better.

He added that this moment was a celebration of the entire Open source -ai community. “Every Lama download is a vote of trust in Open Source KI – and a joint conviction that we can work together so much,” he added.

Meta is preparing to publish several llama models in the coming months, including “argumentation” models that resemble the O3-Mini from Openai and versions with integrated multimodal functions. Zuckerberg has also pointed out “agents” functions, which points out that some models may be able to work autonomously.

In October last year, Zuckerberg also confirmed Aim's prediction that the Lama 4 company published in its third quarterly result in early 2025.

“I assume that the smaller Lama 4 models will be finished first and we expect [them] At the beginning of next year and I think you will be a big deal on several fronts – new modalities, skills, stronger arguments and much faster, ”said Zuckerberg.

The Lama 3 models marked a large turning point in the industry, but Zuckerberg expressed even greater enthusiasm for Lama 4, which he confirmed, which is well in development.

“We train the LAMA 4 models in a cluster that is greater than 100,000 H100 or larger than anything I saw that I have reported for it,” he said.

Lama Powers Meta Ai in Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and is an essential part of the company's long-term AI strategy.
