Michigan's high school graduation rates achieve a record high, as data show

Michigan's final rate is highest. They have been for almost 20 years.

On Thursday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that around 95,300 students graduated from 2023-2024 and marked more students who earned their GEDs and possibly made university formation in the Great Lakes State.

This is also the highest four-year final rate of Michigan since Michigan using the cohort method for calculating the tariffs in 2007-2008.

“As the mother of two graduates of the high school, I know how many football games, index cards and act preparation courses bring your child on stage. Therefore I am so proud to announce that Michigan's graduation rate, the graduation rate of Michigan, has achieved an all-time high in life.”

Overall, the four-year final rate for 2023-2024 was 82.83%, which was an increase compared to 81.77% in 2022-2023, a publication on February 21 by Michigan's household office.

In the schools in West Michigan, the Kalamazoo Public Schools recorded an increase in 2024 from 65.85% to 75.31%, according to the Mi School Data Dashboard, Michigan's official source of education.

In particular, the district of 887 students this year gave 668 diplomas, as the data provided by the dashboard showed.

In addition, the district experienced fewer dropouts in 2024: 93 students in 2024 compared to 184 in 2023.

Other districts in West Michigan also either recorded an increase or a decline in their four -year final rates. This includes:

  • Battle Creek public schools – before 55.18%, current 57.62%
  • Grand Rapid's public schools – before 82.39%, currently 82.53%
  • Osego public schools – before 91.72%, electricity 88.76%
  • Portage public school – before 91.22%, current 92.74%
  • Public schools in South Haven – before 87.25%, current 86.33%
  • Sturgi's public schools – before 84.13%, electricity 86.29%

“I am proud of the hard work of students, educators, support staff, families and communities in Michigan to increase the percentage of the students who complete the high school,” said State Dr. Michael F. Rice. “The conclusion in the high school opens the door for the achievement of junior reports at two and four-year-old institutions of university education as well as in training programs that lead to a variety of industry instructions. Post -conceptual degrees and references help me to make good living, support a family and to realize their professional dreams. ”

The announcement on Thursday will follow several historical investments in education by the Whitmer Gilchrist management.

This included the expansion of the free preschool within the 2025 educational budget, the securing of USD 9,608 per student, free lunch and breakfast to all 1.4 million public students, and more, according to the governor.
