Mississippi State Football History – Saturday in the south

The state of Mississippi started its football program in 1895. The Bulldogs were members of the SIAA from 1896 to 1921 and then joined the Southern Conference from 1922 to 1932. They were then the first members of the seconds in 1932 and have been in the league since then.

The state of Mississippi has not yet won a national championship on the Gridiron and has only won 1 conference title that came in 1941. The program has not produced a Heisman Trophy winner, but has recorded 3 consensus-all-American winners over the years.

Jeff Lebby took over the head coach of the Bulldogs before the 2024 season. Previously, he was an offensive coordinator at Oklahoma and previously an OK with rival Ole Miss. Can he lead the program back to the heights that had not been seen since Dan Mullen? Only time will show it.
