Mndot tips to stay safe on Slick Roads, pay attention to snow plugs – Kymn Radio · Northfield, Mn · on 1080 & FM 95.1

By Logan Wells, News Director | Logan@kymnradio.net

The Minnesota Ministry of Transport (Mndot) reminds the drivers to only travel if they are absolutely necessary for snow storms. Mike Dougherty from Mndot in Rochester says that her work does not end when the snow stops:

“If you end up in the ditch, it is not just your misfortune: suddenly it requires the attention of our state patrol, our law enforcement authorities, towing cars. Often our MN DOT snowplows are out there and offer protection.

“The less traffic on the streets, the better for everyone – for our rescue workers; Obviously for our snow plugs. “ – Mike Dougherty, Minister of Transport by Minnesota. Audio with the kind permission of the Minnesota News Network

If you have to travel Mndot, it is advisable to slow down, to stay vigilant, to avoid distractions, to keep your headlights, to keep your cruise control and to wear your seat belt. Anne Meyer from Mndot reminds the drivers of offering snow plugs a lot of space for safe operation:

“We really ask that you stay behind a snow plow at least 10 car lengths. Yes, they drive slower, they are not always on track, but they try to really clarify this path so that they are safe. “ – Anne Meyer, Minnesota Department of Transportation. Meyer recommends checking the Mndot website, 511mn.org or smartphone app to plan your routes based on snow plants and road conditions.
