Monday brands Start of the storm sensitization week

Storm season approaches quickly. What is the week of storm awareness through the national weather service.

There is currently no storm in the forecast, but the week of the storm awareness begins on Monday. The meteorologist of the Chelsea Picha weather service says that the overall goal is that everyone has the chance to be prepared when storm is possible or threatening.

The annual Tornado bore will take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m.

In the meantime, Spotter training units for the counties of the region were determined:

*Lyon County: March 25th, Emporia State Memorial Union Preston Family Room
*Chase County: March 27, Swope Park Community Center in Cottonwood Falls
*Coffey County: March 20, Burlington 4-H building
*Greenwood County: Monday, Auditorium Eureka High School
*Morris County: March 26, courthouse Keller
*Osage County: April 2, building of the municipality of Lyndon
*Wabaunsee County: April 8th, Mission Valley School

Spotter training units offer basic teachings about storm structure, storm characteristics, storm security in various environments and reporting procedures.

Kansas had 76 Tornados last year, well above the total number of Tornado in the past three years. The KVoe hearing area – Lyon and the surrounding counties – had 10 of these tornados, including each in the counties Lyon and Wabaunsee, two in the counties Coffey and Greenwood and five in Osage County.

The Topeka office of the National Weather Service gave almost 350 serious thunderstorms, which have been the most for the office since 1984. The Wichita office issued 335 warnings that have been published the most since 2019. The biggest hail for the area was a softball size last year and fell on March 13 in Wabaunsee County.

KVOE will live in air and online updates when storm threatens or is in progress in the region, with social media warnings via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. As for years, our reporting with information from the volunteer KVoe Storm Team Spotter Network has been improved.
