Weems – Nancye P. Smither Morris von Weems died quietly on February 18, 2025 at the age of 96.

Nancye was born on November 29, 1928 on her grandfather's farm in King George County, the youngest of three children by Willam and Louise Peed. After the high school, Nancye visited the Madison College (JMU) before getting her bachelor in education from Old Dominion University and then her master from William and Mary.

Nancye taught a combination course of the third and fourth grade on the White Stone Elementary School for eight years before moving to Toano, where she taught the third grade at Norge Elementary for 27. She also taught in Parkgate, England for a year. On her summers, Nancy traveled extensively to many parts of the world and the North American continent. She had been a member of the DAR since 1964.

Nancye was preceded by her parents in death; Husband William Morris; Sister Betty Peed Kellum; Brother William Maxwell Peed Jr.; And Neffen, John “Jack” Thompson and Charles Kellum.

Nancye is survived by her two sons Collin Smither (Amy) and Thomas Smither; Two grandchildren, Benjamin Smither (Melanie) and Gretchen Spencer (Luke); Two great -grandchildren, Maxwell Smither and Walter Smither. It is also survived by three nieces, Melinda May (Tom), Rebecca Finelli (Charles) and Patricia Kellum Carroll; Two big nieces, Caroline Finelli and Annabelle Finelli; And two great nephews, Kenneth May (Kellyn) and William May (Sarah).

The funeral services took place on Tuesday, February 25th, at 2 p.m. in the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. The family received friends an hour before the service. A private funeral took place in the Hickory Neck Episcopal in Toano.

The family would like to recognize the wonderful care and compassion, which they received from the supervisors of Rappahannock-Westminster Canterbury at Home Service, their independent supervisors and their hospice from Virginia.
