NCSD could have a 4-day school week proposal through the winter break 2025-2026-Newton Daily News

Although in the past of the Newton Community School District, the interests of the community measured on a four -day school week through general surveys, school authorities emphasize the need to have a clearer idea of what this really means if they are looking for input for a four -day school week.

In June 2024, the survey results showed that cardinal families were not completely rejected or in favor of a four -day calendar per week. The Baxter Community School District has recently announced that it will be relocated to a four -day school week next year to attract new teachers and to contain their fluctuation rates.

At the end of January, Newton superintendent Tom Messinger spoke to Knia-Krls about his intentions to look for further contributions from the community to the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a four-day school week. At the school authority on February 24, the officials discussed the strategy that the district took.

The school board member Kristi Meyer wanted to ensure that the communication distributed to the community clearly explains what a four -day school week means.

“The people who talked to me about it has a completely different perception of what a four -day school week means,” said Meyer. “I think that's really important. Because when the first survey went all year round, people just voted their interpretation about what that means. “

Cody Muhs, member of the school board, said: “The difference is that we hadn't done anything beforehand. It was a general idea. Both ideas are now very drawn up. “

Messinger expected a detailed proposal to be presented shortly before the Christmas break in the school year 2025-2026. Robyn Friedman, Chairman of the Newton School Board, requested an update at a future board meeting to discuss these preparations in more detail.
