Watch how the buyers believe, they were misleaded by Apple's carbon -neutral claims

Jonathan Stempel writes Reuters:

Apple was sued by consumers who claim that three versions of Apple watches are “carbon -neutral” and environmentally friendly is wrong and misleading.

In a complaint submitted on Wednesday in San Jose, California, seven buyers of the green Apple Watch Series 9, SE and Ultra 2 said that they had not bought their watches or had paid less if they had known the truth.

Apple … started the clocks in September 2023 and said that they would be carbon -neutral by combining lower emissions and purchases of carbon offset.

But the plaintiffs -from California, Florida and Washington, said DC -two Carbon Office projects, which Apple was based on his company emission goal, did not deliver any “real” CO2 reductions.

Two specific offset projects are called not “real”:

  1. Kenya Chyulu Hills project
  2. China's Guinan project

The plaintiffs argue that none of these facts should actually qualify for the provision of carbon offset for Apple:

“In both cases, the carbon reductions would have occurred regardless of the participation of Apple or the existence of the project,” the complaint said. “Since the demands of Apple Carbonutrality are based on the effectiveness and legitimacy of these projects, Apple's CO2 neutrality is wrong and misleading.”

In the lawsuit, damage caused by Apple and an interim blocking of Apple by using the term “carbon neutral” is submitted in one of its product marketing.

Since the start of the first carbon -neutral -Aple models 2023, Apple has also launched the M4 Mac Mini as the first carbon -neutral Mac and extended the options for carbon -neutral watches with the Apple Watch Series 10 line.

Update 2/28 11:45 a.m.: Apple gave the following statement 9to5mac:

“We are proud of our carbon -neutral products, which are the result of industry -leading innovations in terms of clean energy and carbon -poor design. We drastically reduced the emissions for Apple Watch by over 75 percent and invest considerably in natural -based projects to remove hundreds of thousands of tons of carbon from the air. This innovation and progress are important for us and the planets, which is why we describe our work prominently and transparently for our users. “
