New on Netflix: 5 films and shows that this week (February 24th (March 24th

The top shows and films that are new to Netflix this week are directed by a new original comedy by the celebrated writer/producer/actor Mindy Kaling.

“Running Point” meets the streaming service this week and comes from a comedy creative dream team from Kaling, her colleague “The Mindy Project”, David Stossen, “The Mindy Project” Co-Star Ike Barinholtz and “Modern Family”, Elaine, Elaine Ko. This workplace sports comedy plays Kate Hudson as a newly shaped president of the successful (but fictional) Los Angeles Waves Basketball franchise. It looks absurd and it is the clear must-watch show on Netflix this week.

Apart from that, it's a relatively quiet week. Or at least based on what we know so far. Unfortunately, we cannot confirm the selection of shows and films to Netflix in March 2025. It is not impossible that it is worth seeing this weekend, but the other big Netflix debut is “full swing”, a sports docuseries this week that follows the life of the world's largest golfers.

“Running Point” plays Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon. One of several members of the Gordon family who own the very successful waves in Los Angeles. Yes, the waves are definitely based on the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA and the Gordon family is definitely also based on the bus family that they have.

This makes Isla standing for Jeanie Buss, the controlling owner of the Lakers. However, if the trailer is a hint, this show appears a bit absurd and strange than the real events on which it is based. However, if Isla is appointed President of the waves, she will be Jeanie Buss with similar challenges to maintain recognition and respect it deserves.

“Full Swing” is an original Netflix document that the streaming giant does in collaboration with the PGA tour. “Toxic Town” is a British drama mini series based on the shattering true story of the Corby Toxic waste. Between 1984 and 29988, the Corby Borough Council worked on a Reclamation Project of a Local Steelworks, which intended to build a new city at the location. As part of the process, they transported tons of poisonous waste through populated areas. It turned out that this negligence led to significant increase in local birth defects and ultimately converts 18 families and submitted a collective suit against the district council.

In this four-part limited series, the writer Jack Thorne concentrates on three of these eighteen family in particular the mothers of these families. With Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood and Claudia Jessie as the three mothers and Rory Kinnear as a lawyer, helps them to pursue their case. Don't miss this heartbreaking story if you fall on Netflix this week.

“Despicable Me” has turned into one of the most successful franchise companies in the world. Gru and his henchmen have become so iconic that the henchmen with “Minions” from 2015 received their own spin-off franchise.

But this film is the fourth main film in the franchise, and not surprisingly, “Despicable Me 4” brings Gru (Steve Carrell), his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and her adoptive children Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan). In this film, Gru is a secret agent and is ready with a life full of crimes. But things turn around when a school rival from his past called Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) escapes prison and seeks revenge. Gru has to move his family to a safe house to avoid the dark le, and at the same time to do with his neighbor Poppy Prescott (Joey King), who wants to step in grus villain.

“Sakamoto Days” continues his weekly runs for Netflix this week and if you haven't seen it yet, you should set yourself this Saturday by episode 8. This Japanese anime revolves around the legendary Hitman Taro Sakamoto (Tomokazu Sugita [Japanese]; Matthew Mercer [English]) who was once the most dreaded Hitman in the world until he married aoi (nao tōyama [Japanese]; Rosie Okumura [English]). He promised her never to kill again and left the world of the contract to kill forever.

Almost strikers and Sakamoto are now a husband, father, owner and proud owner of what some would call “Papa Bod”. But while he sworn the killing, other hitmen have not sworn to kill him. The first seven episodes have already been published and a new episode arrives every Saturday. Feel free to see this show either in your original Japanese or in a surprisingly good English dub.
