Newcastle defeated Liverpool to win the first English football League Cup

Newcastle United defeated Liverpool in the final of the English League Cup 2-1.

The meeting took place in the London Wembley Stadium, reported News.AZ.

The gates of the winners were scored by Dan Burn (45th minute) and Alexander Isak (52). Liverpools Federico Chiesa (90+4) achieved. Isak achieved in the 51st minute, but the goal was not approved after the intervention of the Var system (Video Assistant Referee).

Newcastle won the English League Cup for the first time in its history. The team had previously played twice in the final of the tournament: 1976 and 2023. Newcastle won the trophy for the first time since 2006 when they won the intertoto cup that was no longer existing.

Liverpool won the 2024 edition of the competition and held the record for most Cup victories (10). The team previously won 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2012 and 2022.
