Danny Welbeck showed the scourge of St. James' Park for the second time this season when Brighton Newcastle got out of the FA Cup.

The visitors booked their place in the quarter -finals thanks to the late winner of Welbeck in an extension in a fifth round full of drama. The veteran striker scored the only goal when these two sides met here in the league at the beginning of this season, and was really quiet towards Chip Martin Dubrvaka to pay this entertaining matter with about five minutes before the additional time.

The two sides had each extended an extension to a man, with Tarriq Lamppty's second yellow card he was released shortly after Anthony Gordon after he had been rejected after switching off. Shortly before half -time, Brighton had repelled Alexander Isak after the early penalty, but lost almost late in regulation. Fabian Schar refused by Var, who was followed away from the side before he shone the winner. This postponement allowed Welbeck to beat and ensure that Brighton is in the hat for the last eight draws.

Danny Welbeck speaks to ITV after his match-coated moment

“It's a big moment. Great to achieve the winning goal and through the quarters. There was a lot going on in this game today! Everyone hums.

“You come against Newcastle, they are a really intense side. It is very dangerous, but we held up to our weapons and invested a large shift. I feel very good, feel fit and strong. We did a lot of hard work. I have a lot more to come.

“It's getting hard. We came here in a special atmosphere and made a great shift. It is important that we look at the next game and not come in front of ourselves. “
