NHL Playoff classification: Can the Oilers win the Pacific crown?

Based on how things have been in trend in the past few weeks, hockey fans should prepare for the fourth round of the Edmonton Oilers against the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the playoffs. The clubs have given the number 2 and 3 seeds back and forth in the last few days.

But what if one of these teams from this second slot moves into first place?

It could be the kings who have a game in hand on the Vegas Golden Knights. And it could also be the oilers that we know from time to time they can go to heating. Edmonton's mission begins on Tuesday evening against the Utah Hockey Club (9 p.m. ET, ESPN), a team that you beat in both previous meetings this season.

In addition to the game against Utah, the Oilers are exposed to opponents in six of their last 14 games. This run includes a game against the Golden Knights and two against the kings, matchups, which have additional meaning if the overall ranking remains nearby. Of the other eight games, three are against the already eliminated San Jose-shark and two against the soon eliminated Seattle octopus.

Speaking of evaluation: The Golden Knights are currently at the top with 86 points and 36 regulatory winners in 67 games, the Oilers have 82 and 28 to 67 and the kings have 81 and 31 to 66.

Until April 17, the last day of the regular season, there is still a lot of runway left and we will help you to follow everything with the NHL Playoff Watch. While we cross the last route, we will specify all playoff races together with the teams looking for position in the NHL -Draft lottery from 2025.

Note: Playoff chances are on stathlets.

Race for No. 1 selection

The NHL uses a lottery design to determine the order of the first round. Therefore, the team that ends in the last place is not guaranteed to select number 1. From 2021, a team can rise a maximum of 10 spots if the lottery wins, so that only 11 teams are justified for No. 1 selection. You can find complete details about the process here. Matthew Schaefer, a defender of the Otters of the Ohl, is number 1 in the Draft board.
