Nikon Z8 V2.10 and Z6III V1.10 Firmware updates published – Closure angle and video improvements

Nikon has just released new firmware updates for the mirrorless cameras from Z8 (V2.10) and Z6III (V1.10). The latest firmware focuses on improving the video functions of the two cameras and brings useful functions such as: Failure angle Display, refined adaptation of exposure tools and granular control for electricity zoom lenses.

After taking over Red by Nikon last year, the Japanese company is probably a little pressure to act and prove that its products can do justice to the demanding standards of filmmaking community. And while the first red cameras are already being sent with Nikon Z Mount, Nikon never seems to forget that they are constantly improving their z series of reflective installation via a strong firmware update game.

In fact, the flagship Z9 received another large firmware update (V5.10) at the end of last year and more than 3+ years after its first publication, whereby the closure angle and sophisticated adaptation options for monitoring tools such as zebra, histogram and wave shape were added. The same functions are now ported on Z8 and Z6III. Let's take a look!

Firmware V2.10 for Nikon Z8 and V1.10 for Nikon Z6iii functions

One of the most interesting functions with firmware V2.10 for Z8 and V1.10 for Z6III is the addition of a new one Closure mode Option. In this way, you can essentially select whether your camera shows the exposure time in seconds or angles.

Use the Failure angle The option can help you accelerate things in the field, especially if you change your image rate very often. When Failure angle is selected, the exposure period can be set in 15 steps in the range of 5.6 ° to 360 °.

In addition, users now receive better control over the appearance of useful exposure tools. In fact, you can now select the color of the zebrabaster between five available options (black/red/green/green/blue) and adjust the size, transparency and position of the histogram or wave shape monitor. For me, the latter is a small but very welcome addition, because I noticed that it is easy for the wave shape monitor to stand in the way when using my Z6III.

Finally, the firmware adds new options for the Hi-res Digital zoom function and optimized controls for electricity zoom lenses. Hi-res Zoom can now also be used in the DX harvest mode, although up to 2160p on the Z8 and 1080p on the Z6III and also with the optical zoom of PZ lenses can be synchronized via a new one Power/hi-res-zoom cooperation Menu item.

On the other hand, you can now change the rotation and the area of the zoom ring at Power -Zoom lenses and also select various zoom speeds if you control a zoom with the zoom lever on the PZ lens or the button.

Improved image quality for Nikon Z6iii?

Under the version instructions of the firmware version V1.10 for the Nikon Z6iii, we can read “reduced sound in dark areas of N-log videos”. Although I have never experienced a problem when I picked N-log on my Z6III, I have read online comments from people who complain about some strange flickers/artifacts that occur in the shadow areas of the N log film material, especially if they are shot down by the native ISO values.

If this is your case, I recommend that you test the new firmware and determine whether your problem has been tackled. And please don't forget to report your results in the comment area below!
