Nittany Lions ready for another post -season in the record setting

The favorite season of Penn State Wrestling, the post -season, begins next week at Northwestern University. And after one of the greatest regular seasons, the Penn State Wrestling History, the program was not only able to produce the best post -season in its history, but also in the history of sport. So let's start.

Big ten Wrestling championships

Penn State, who won his fifth time in a row Big Ten title of the regular seasonwill fight for his third big ten tournament in a row. Why the delay? Well, for some reason, big ten were a Tweener event for Penn State. Coach Cael Sanderson won 11 NCAA titles in Penn State, but eight Big Ten titles. The Nittany Lions were second place three times with Big Ten (2017, 2018 and 2022) before they won the NCAA team title in the same year. Last year Penn State changed this story and won the Big Ten official title by scoring a school record of 170.5 points without the National Champion Carter Starocci, which was injured.

Penn State could surpass this sum this year because no Big Ten team won more than three single fights against Penn State during the regular season. Sanderson also said after the team's end of the team against Americans that the Nittany Lions were generally healthy. This is the overwhelming focus for training the next week.

Tyler Kasak, the wrestler No. 1 with £ 157, returned from two games with a concussion to achieve a pin of the first periods against Americans. However, the 133-pound starter Braeden Davis did not struggle against Americans for “precautionary reasons”, said Sanderson. Since Penn State tries to qualify 10 wrestlers for Nationals for the second time in episode, Davis' Health will be a key story.

The big ten championships could also deliver several NCAA championship preview on Penn State Wrestlers. The most fascinating are 141 between Beau Bartletts, Jesse Mendez von Penn State, and 285 between Greg Kerkvliet von Penn State and Gable Steveson von Minnesota.

Bartlett won the regular season With Mendez, as he did last year before he fell on Big Ten and in the NCAA final. Bartlett is undefeated and is in first place in the country, while Mendez, the defending NCAA champion, is number 2.

Similarly, Kerkvliet and Steveson could be a fascinating preamble for nationals. Kerkvliet is the defending champion in heavyweight heavyweight, Steveson, the two-time NCAA champion (in 2021-22), who returned to Minnesota for his last season after not shot with folk style in the past two years.

NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships

Penn State produced the Tournament with the highest score In NCAA history last year with eight all-Americans, six finalists, four champions and 172.5 team points. The Nittany Lions have a significant opportunity to exceed these figures this year.

In the latest NCAA -Wrestling trainer listsThe part of the sowing formula for nationals are eight Nittany Lions first or second classified. This includes five first -class wrestlers: Bartlett, Kasak, Starocci, Kerkvliet and Levi Haines (174). If Penn deserves and wrestles these seeds at Nationals, this would have eight finalists, a tournament record. The NCAA record for individual national champions is five, a Mark Penn State has reached twice under Sanderson (2018 and 2022).

Two other potentially fascinating regulations include Haines and Starocci. Haines' individual loss this season was Keegan O'Toole von Missouri, a two-time NCAA champion that missed the time with an injury. And Starocci could stand in a potential finale against the returning national champion Parker kick iron from north -iowa. Starocci defeated kick iron 4-1 in the sudden victory at the NWCA All-Star Classic in November.
