NKY Mayor examines under allegations of misconduct

Williamstown, Ky. (Wxix) – The mayor of Williamstown is now being examined after he has been charged with the office.

The city council approved the application to examine on Tuesday evening during a special meeting.

The agenda for this meeting contained a point that a hearing on allegations of:

  • Total misconduct
  • Misory of city funds
  • Maintaining an enemy work environment
  • No city ordinance honor
  • Non -help from the local newspapers provide a message about new regulations
  • Several cases in which executive orders are issued to enable free time
  • Misuse of credit card purchases
  • Give away from electricity bills worth one month as prize money.

Mayor Mark Christopher spoke at the beginning of this meeting and said that a former city clerk was responsible for a large part of the city's financial problems due to the embezzlement of funds.

“I do not agree with the city council that the funds that are not properly treated by the city clerk are not treated properly, but I do not agree to the remaining allegations,” said the mayor. He defended his use of credit card funds to provide free T-shirts, and explained that he had used diligently as they were intended.

Christopher also presented a roadmap for the financial recovery he said he was asked. This included reducing part -time employees, the employment of employees to avoid overtime, and the appointment of a financial examination of the city.

The city council went into the executive for several hours to discuss the mayor as a personnel matter.

Christopher now told Fox19 that the session was violent, but he finally left the meeting at the request of the council members.

After an executive meeting, the Council voted for the plans of a hearing in alleged misconduct. A new application was submitted to hire a lawyer to examine the mayor.

“His task will be to investigate the behavior of the mayor in office,” said Dave Henson, a member of the city council.

When asked about the mayor's accusation that the city's financial situation could be attributed to the city clerk, Henson refused to say something about the employee.

Nevertheless, Henson added: “My feeling is that the mayor is responsible for the city, the city finances and how it is managed.”

Henson said you will wait for the test results before taking measures.

“The citizens of Williamstown chose a mayor, and that is a very serious thing. To remove someone from office, it is a serious situation, and we take it personally and we take this responsibility to the heart,” he said.
