No license needs on June 7th

The Lone Star State offers some of the most fascinating Angling opportunities in the country and offers both freshwater and salt water catches. To fish in the state, you must have a license and freshwater/salt water brands, unless you are in one of the 65 of 89 state parks that enable fishing or on the free fish day.

The free fishing day is Saturday, June 7, 2025. It happens on the first Saturday in June of each year when someone can fish leisure activities without licenses or notes. The purpose of the day is to give people the opportunity to try a line, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife.

Anglers can fish for free in every State Park in Texas all year round. However, the parking fees continue to apply. All other fishing regulations still have to be followed, including length and bag boundaries.

Whether on the coast, in streams, rivers or on a boat in a lake or pond – as long as it is completely enclosed in a State Park, it is a fair game.

State parks only enable rods and lines to fish on artificial structures such as docks and pillars, with each person being limited to two poles.

Fishing in waters that are completely enclosed in private property does not require a fishing license.
