No shooter found at Muskingum University; Considered after the examination

The law enforcement authorities reacted to Muskingum University on Monday evening when there was an active shooter on campus.

After an examination and a warning for students and employees after Shelter-in-Place, Matt Lutz said that sheriff Matt Lutz, Muskingum County had no evidence of a shootout. The order in this position was lifted shortly before 9 p.m.

The authorities reacted to a domestic argument earlier a day, and Lutz said that there was a misunderstanding about how it was reported, in particular on social media.

“There was a big answer from law enforcement agencies as well as fire and EMS,” said Lutz. “However, we think that in the implementation of the investigation we believe that this is probably something that was misunderstood by someone who said something about the earlier incident, and so it was reported.”

Lutz said that an employee had a conversation about the dispute and told his supervisor about it. This then led to a call from the law enforcement agencies, who said they spoke to these people and caused social media an overreaction.

The Sheriff's office said that the investigation of what happened continued.
