Nobody injured in the fire of the Yates Center on Friday

Yates Center, Kan. (Wibw) – On Friday, March 14th, no injuries from the fire of the Yates Center were reported.

According to Woodson County's emergency management, an important forest fire in the southwestern Yates Center near South Owl Lake was registered on Friday around 3:15 p.m. Strong winds from the south quickly pushed the fire north and created an immediate and serious threat to the community.

The Yates Center fire brigade reacted within minutes, and due to the rapid spread of the fire, an emergency evacuation order for the establishment of the Yates Center Health and Reha Care was issued.

Mutual help was immediately requested and was before the scene to support the fire fighting efforts before the nursing home.

The fire ultimately used the system, which led to a total loss.

All 38 inhabitants together with the employees were certainly evacuated and originally housed in temporary protection of the Yates Center High School. All residents have now been successfully moved to other care facilities in the region.

The department for emergency management in Kansas was used to secure staff and equipment. The Woodson County Emergency Operations Center was activated and a local disaster was explained.

The US Highway 75 was closed for several hours due to heavy smoke and dangerous conditions. In addition, the power in the City of Yates Center was temporarily shortened to reduce the risks during fire fighting efforts.

A first aid rehabilitation center was founded in the municipal building, which was occupied by voluntary and medical rescue officers. The fire also lit a large amount of crushed tires and a barn south of the football field of the Yates Center.

Firefighters continue to monitor the wildland fire in this area, which is now largely included. Additional firefighters should arrive on Sunday and stay in the area to get relief.
