Notre Dame announces the academic schedule for autumn

The registrar's office has announced a calendar change for the autumn semester of Notre Dame. In an e -e -mail to students, the university announced that the reform will shift the beginning of the semester to a Monday – August 25th for the next year – and not to the traditional Tuesday start date.

According to the e -mail, the adjustment will not change the total number of class days that remain at 70. To compensate, the last class day for the upcoming autumn semester is postponed a day earlier to Wednesday, December 10th.

According to this new schedule, there will be no reading day on Friday. Instead, Thursday will be a reading day next to Saturday and Sunday. The final exams as part of this new system begin on Friday and then take place from Monday to Thursday.

The adaptation was approved by the Executive Committee of the Academic Council and will come into force at the beginning of the autumn semester 2025, which was communicated to e -mail.

In an e -mail to the observer, the deputy vice president and the university registrar Chuck Hurley said the intention behind the decision.

“The topic has been discussing for a while,” Hurley wrote. “After a proposal by the student government, the MLK Day was approved as a public holiday in 2022. After that, most spring semester started on Monday.

According to Hurley, an important factor in the manufacture of the notre of the Notre Dame Community was enough time to adapt to the change. In order to clear up the concerns of the students, the government tried to make the adjustment in good time.

“A concern was the adjustment before registration in April, so that students and faculties had enough time to know,” wrote Hurley.

Hurley also explained that the administration received recommendations from several different groups in its decision.

“Feedback on the schedule adjustments in autumn 2024 by faculty, consultants, students and employees was quite similar,” wrote Hurley. “Two articles were found.

The following changes reflect these goals because Saturday is no longer a day of testing because it was in the last semester.

Siegfried Freshman Alex Rweyemamu shared his dissatisfaction with the changes to the final test plan.

“I don't mind what changes we start on which day of the week.” I think you should make a day of reading on Friday. ”

Felix Ruda, another Siegfried newcomer, supported the changes.

“The change enables the students to get more time for the winter break and [be] I settled for Christmas, “said Ruda.
