The ombudsperson Call Center helps the residents to address mold and leaks

Cesar de Castro, a criminal defense lawyer, heads the Call Center, ordered by the court, which contributes to ensuring compliance with Nycha consent to the repair of mold and leaks.

“Whatever I asks you is an order from me that is unattractive. So it is not that you can then delay and say: 'We will be called to the judge.' No, when I say that we have to repair your apartment in two weeks, you have to do your best to repair the apartment in two weeks, “he said.

De Castro said he thinks very few residents of Nycha know about the call center, but he tries to spread the word because he wants to help more people.

You can reach the OCC when Ombnyc.com Or by calling 1-888-341-7152.

Nycha encourages the residents to call the OCC, but first complaints have to be submitted to Nycha.

The OCC only offers help for mold and leaks.

According to Nycha, OCC has contributed to having a leaky tube repaired

Bernard Smith in Nycha said that he discovered a leaky pipe in his apartment when he organized a dinner party.

“It had a smell, a rusty smell,” he said. “And my guests said: 'What is it?' They said: 'You have a leak there.' “

So he reached to Nycha to get a solution.

“They say they will send an e -mail to the maintenance people, and the maintenance people said it is not our problem, they are the plumber,” said Smith. “I called and called and called, but I had to wait.”

Instead of just waiting for Nycha, Smith typed the OCC.

Smith says his leak happened about two months after the first. He says he thinks that if he hadn't called the OCC, he would still wait.

Nycha says that progress has been made despite increasing waiting times

Dan Greene, Executive Vice President Property Management, gives too high that the waiting time is too high.

“We spoke a few months ago that it was still too high at the time. We made progress in some of our most important shops such as plaster and paving and electricians,” he said.

While Nycha wants to build on this progress, it also hopes to reduce a gap for painting and carpentry jobs.

The housing authority says that it also discovers more problems and accepts more repair jobs, as it is necessary to inspect every apartment every year last year. Nycha inspected one year and the other half of the next year half of his apartments.

“We also buy more materials for our carpenters so that we have more materials for things such as cabinet repairs or door repairs so that people do not wait for a cabinet output to carry out the repairs,” said Greene.

Nycha said her budget was a challenge and you need capital investments. The housing authority also said that it could possibly have some double symptoms in their system that increases the gap.

Nevertheless, Nycha admits that they have to improve.
