Officials hire Vice President of Campus Security in response to the GWPD's exploration findings – the GW -Hatchet

On Wednesday, the deputy vice president of the university, Katie McDonald, the interim Vice President for Campus Safety, was appointed a role on Wednesday, which they founded on the recommendation of the GW Police Authority in the Streitrollout of the GW Police Department.

McDonald will monitor the security of the campus and enable “close coordination” between GW offices such as the office for Advocacy and Support and GWPD in view of the recent findings of third-party investigators, in which reports of former officials of the firearms at GWPD were reported. Vice President of Safety and Operations Baxter said Goodly said that McDonald has “deep experience” in emergency provision and will work on hiring students, faculties and employees in the upcoming security initiatives of universities, such as the search for the official after the next police chief.

Timothy Longo, chief of police at the University of Virginia, worked on the months of investigation and recommended the GW to the position of the university, Ellen Granberg, on Tuesday.

“This is an important organizational change that will best support the university by increasing the cooperation and coordination between the teams that are of crucial importance for the security of our community,” said Goodly.

The investigation of third-party providers carried out by the law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher confirmed the reporting of the Hatchet in September 2024 on faulty firearm registration for GWPD officers and a lack of extensive training within the department. The former GWPD leader James Tate resigned in October.

Granberg said that the Vice President of Campus Security would work with “external partners” to ensure a “comprehensive” approach to the security of the campus.

From Wednesday, the GW office for personnel management and development company has not yet published the list to stop the constant vice president for the safety of the campus on its side.

The publication on Wednesday states that the additional recommendations of Longo, which include the creation of a reaction team for mental health, and a national search for the next GWPD leader, which is taken into account by civil servants. At a session of the student association last month, GW official selected a recruitment company to carry out the search for candidates, but the university is still up to four months from the selection of the final applicants.

“The university plans to start a national search for a permanent head of the GWPD, which has a top priority for McDonald and provides further information as soon as it is available,” says the publication on Wednesday.

The publication on Wednesday states that McDonald is a “long -term” employee at GW and that “many” security initiatives from the universities and as a civilian analyst at the Chicago police authority in the Federal Emergency Management Agency held.

At the GW, McDonald previously worked as a deputy vice president of university resilience, where she supervised the company within the Office for Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, Emergenuau and the Office for Emergency Management. Josh Lasky, who is currently the director of the Office for Sustainability, will temporarily take on the role according to the publication.
