Oklahoma football history – Saturday in the south

Oklahoma is one of the great programs of all time in the history of college football. The Sooners claim 7 national championships in their famous story, which goes back until their first season in 1895.

These titles came in 1950, 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1985 and 2000. So far, the 2000s had dropped a little for Oklahoma, but the sooners continued to increase the winners of the Heisman Trophy. Over the years, the Sooners have produced 7 Heisman winners, who are at most connected to USC, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

These Heisman winners were Billy Vessels (1952), Steve Owens (1969), Billy Sims (1978), Jason White (2003), Sam Bradford (2008), Baker Mayfield (2017) and Kyler Murray (2018). Interestingly, the Sooners in the same year in which they claimed a national championship have never had a Heisman winner.

Oklahoma made herself from the Big 12 to the Sec before the 2024 season. The Sooners also have 1 title from the MVIAA and 2 from the Southwest conference before he came to the Big 6.
