Ole Miss Football History – Saturday in the south

Ole Miss Football started in 1893 as the first football program in the state of Mississippi. (The rival state Mississippi started the program 2 years later in 1895.)

The rebels were a founding member of the SEC in 1932. They have won 3 national titles over the years, 1959, 1960 and 1962. They won the Sec title 6 times, most recently in 1963.

Ole Miss has never had a Heisman Trophy winner, but has produced an NFL -draft pick of number 1. That was Eli Manning in 2004. He was confiscated by the San Diego Chargers, but did not want to play for them, so a Night trade draft sent him to the New York Giants, with the Chargers landed by Philip Rivers. Manning then won 2 great bowls with the Giants.
