Onion Creek Fire in Hays County grows over 170 acres, the crews fight overnight

Firefighters in central texas are making progress in combating the Onion Creek Fire in West Buda near Kyle City Limits. Officials confirm that evacuation orders have been canceled.

According to the Kyle Fire Department, the fire that broke out on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Andy Womble, Kyle Fire Public Information Officer said: “This is the area that is full of brushes and so on, so a fire in this area is nothing new.”

Firefighters managed to stop the forward movement of the fire, supported by calmer winds. The crews remain on site overnight to monitor the area and use drone services from the Hays County's Sheriff to identify hotspots.

Bryant Cuadros, public information officer of Hays County's sheriff, said: “We help the fire to find these hotspots out of concern, so that work is more efficient this evening.”

The fire broke out on a warning day of the red flag, with the conditions for fast fire ripe because the winds turned up to 50 miles per hour. Womble noticed: “Today it was the perfect conditions for a fire. I know that here in the county and all over the district all departments have filled additional resources.”

Local officials have not yet published a containment percentage, but remain vigilant with hidden hotspots that could spark again. Womble added: “We are here, wipe hotspots and also work the night and tomorrow to clean up everything.”

Over 100 first aiders from different departments, including San Marcos, South Hays, North Hays, Wimberley, Kyle and Buda, work together to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the nearby residents. The cause of the fire is still being examined.
