Opening date for the largest new park in SF presented

The opening date for what will be built this year in San Francisco for the largest new park in San Francisco has finally been determined.

On Saturday, the department for relaxation and park in San Francisco announced the 43 hectare park by the sea, which bordered on the western edge of the city along the large motorway “end of the line, for buses and everything else”, as Hunter S. Thompson said once on April 12th.

Everything it needs is a name.

The locals are invited to take part in the “rare occasion”, to weigh their suggestions, as one should call the two miles long goal, the spaces and seating opportunities for live music and performance art, lounge areas with chairs and hammocks for the absorption of the view in the sea, a skate spot, the fitness equipment outdoors, the bike and more. Sculptures and new murals, which honor the history of the district, which is permeated in the surf culture, will also decorate the park of the park.

The “Great Park Naming Contest” sponsored by the department now runs until March 16. On the same day, the Great Highway is to be closed forever between Lincoln Avenue and Sloat Boulevard as well as the Great Highway Extension Southbound Bord from Sloat to Skyline Boulevards. A virtual community meeting takes place on March 18 at 6 p.m. to check the submissions, and the public can expect that the nominations for the final name between March 20 and April 2 will be deviated.

General Manager Phil Ginsburg described it as a “historical moment” for what the department describes as the largest pedestrian project in the history of California.

“This park belongs to the people in San Francisco,” he said in an explanation. “It is a place where the city meets the sea, where art and nature come together and where San Franciscans are left its mark – not only through the park, but by giving it its name.”

In the six weeks before the opening date, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will adapt the travel traces and signal the timing in the closing areas, in addition to “creating safe bike and pedestrian paths to and around the park,” said the department. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will then work on its annual sand-backpass operation of the sand-wide to strengthen the coast against the increase in sea level and the stormy effects, while the department for Rec and Park implements some of the new features of the park. The opening on April 12th is cut into a ceremony and a joint celebration of the band, but the way to change the park was not without an appropriate share of disputes.

It all started in April 2020 when the Department for Rec and Park closed the large highway to cars to enable more space for relaxation outdoors and social distancing at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. In August 2021, it switched to a hybrid model that was open to traffic on weekdays and on weekends as car -free promenade from the southwestern corner of the Golden Gate Park had returned to life in the San Francisco Zoo.

It was a great success and became the third -visit -visited park in San Francisco (behind the Golden Gate Park and Marina Green), since according to the department, it marked more than 8,000 visitors on an average weekend. In November, 54% of the voters proposition K approved a ballot initiative to make the park permanently car-free after opponents had discussed heated debates, who argued that he would growl away traffic and violate small companies.

Followers say that it will attract pedestrian traffic and bring more people to the area.

“From initial amenities such as seating and recreation areas to beautiful art and useful paths, this will be a changed space that is used by generations of San Franciscans of all ages and origin,” said Lucas Lux, President of Friends of Ocean Beach Park. “We are pleased to announce further updates for the park in the coming weeks and to work together as a community to make this room even more special.”
