Orange examines cyber attack after hacker leaks stolen data expires

This comes as a member of the Hellcat Ransomware Group, known as Rey, access to a “non-critical application”, which is part of a local branch in Romania.

After access, the Hacker had stolen 380,000 clear e -mail addresses, source code, invoices, contracts as well as customer and employee information that corresponds to around 12,000 files, asserted Bleeping computer.

Although this was not a ransomware attack, the attacker intended to extort the telecommunications giant by leaving a ransom note.

However, Orange did not take any negotiations and prompted the attacker to publish the stolen data on the dark web.

“Orange can confirm that our operations in Romania were the goal of a cyber attack,” said a company spokesman.

“We have taken immediate measures and our top priority protects the data and interests of our employees, customers and partners.
