Oregon State Parks see the record number of visitors again

Oregon State Parks experienced a record number of day -to -day visits in 2024.

The agency said that almost 53.85 million visits were estimated last year. This rose 3% for coastal parks in the previous year. Other parks had a little fewer visits.

Stefanie Knowlton with Oregon State Parks said people love their state parks. The record number of daily use visits is part of a number of records for the department.

According to Knowlton, the number of visits to parks and their employees can be difficult.

“Visitors can help reduce these effects on their favorite parks by following parking rules, staying on the way and leaving no trace,” she said. “You could also consider visiting some of the hidden jewels in the parking system and finding a new favorite place to explore.”

According to Knowlton, the State Parks have increased some of their fees to support the increased costs. However, she added that in the future you may need more funds to support operations and maintenance.

Oregon State Parks is financed by fees for leisure vehicles, the state lottery and income, which are earned by the visitors.

The parking department shared this list to illustrate the costs and wear that had the high number of visitors on the system:

  • A busy park needs almost a semi-trick load toilet paper per year for visitors.
  • More than a third of the toilet facilities are 50 years or older, for which more care and maintenance require for higher use. The cost of replacing a toilet/shower building is now more than $ 1 million.
  • Parks serve up to 17,000 campers per night in the busy season, which means that a city is moved almost every day by Canby in and from the campsites in and out of the campsite.

The overnight camping had dropped slightly in 2024. Knowledge leads to the fact that three popular parks were closed last year, including Beverly Beach. This park on the central coast has been open again since then.

Oregon State Parks now hire for seasonal Rangers and Ranger assistants.

State Parks determines the number of day -to -day visits by taking auto counts and using a multiplier.
